FC Community 2-2 Burscough
A 2-2 draw at Admiral Park on Sunday in a match that FC Community will feel they did enough to win.
The side put together a strong all-round performance, playing some genuinely impressive football and creating the better of the chances across the ninety minutes. Burscough were a difficult opponent, but for long spells the home team set the tempo and dictated how the match was played.
The breakthrough arrived on 70 minutes through Kirsty Young, who finished off a sustained period of pressure. Admiral Park was behind the team and the lead felt deserved. Burscough responded to draw level shortly after, and the contest reset.
FC Community went in front for a second time on 80 minutes when Emma Jones found the net, only for Burscough to equalise two minutes later. A frustrating way to be pegged back, but a fair reflection of a competitive afternoon between two sides who refused to settle.
Grace Donaghey took player of the match honours with an excellent display at left back. Composed in possession, willing to push forward in support of the attack and reliable in her defensive duties throughout, she set the standard from the back.
Off the pitch, it was a strong turnout. The bar and balcony were busy and the support around the ground was felt by the players. A proper Admiral Park atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon.
The side travel to Southport next Sunday for the final group game of the League Cup, with a semi-final place at stake.
