Football Should Be For Everyone (And We Actually Mean It)
At FC Community, we believe football should be for everyone. Not as a slogan that sounds good on social media, but as the genuine foundation of everything we do.
We’re working to create an environment where everyone can enjoy football and our social activities without facing discrimination, harassment, or general unpleasantness.
Integrity
Everyone in FC Community has a duty of care to one another. We commit to recognising when people need help, and offering it, without hesitation or expectation of something in return.
The integrity of structure protects our community: every member is fully welcomed to ensure they are able to build trust within FCC.
Operating on a cycle of accountability, we ensure sub-groups report into the steering group, while an advisory panel of local community members serves both as a sounding board and as an external oversight mechanism for the steering group.
Respect
Everyone who engages with FCC, both internally and externally, is treated with equal respect, dignity and consideration.
We will add value and support local needs by collaborating with, and being guided by, existing organisations and individuals within the community.
We will prioritise listening over speaking, ensuring that community voices shape our actions.
We recognise that people volunteer their time and effort to build a strong community owned club, therefore we will foster a culture grounded in care, patience, and appreciation for all forms of participation.
Belonging
FCC treats all three pillars (Community, Women’s and Men’s) of the club as holding equal weight to ensure all members feel connected to the club.
At our club, every person, member, player, coach, parent, volunteer is part of something bigger than a football club.
Members are expected to treat our value of belonging as reciprocal: it is the club’s duty to ensure all members feel at home and members’ duty to engage with the club’s values, visions and activities.
Our Commitment to Each Other
As members, we agree to respect the rights, dignity, and worth of every person who walks through our doors.
Age, ability, gender, race, migration status, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality, or economic background, none of it matters when it comes to how we treat each other. Fair treatment isn’t negotiable; it’s just how we operate.
This means everyone involved, players, coaches, staff and volunteers commits to building mutual understanding and respect. It also means we’re willing to challenge discrimination when we encounter it, even when it’s uncomfortable.
The Reality Check
We’d love to pretend that football’s barriers magically disappear once people step onto our pitch, but that’s not how the world works. Discrimination exists across society, and our community isn’t immune. Many individuals and groups still face significant barriers, and prejudice can surface anywhere, including here.
That’s why we’re committed to honest self-reflection. When challenged about our actions or words, we listen and learn rather than getting defensive. It’s about genuinely working to unlearn any biases, not just talking about it.
