University of Liverpool 4-4 FC Community
A four-four draw away to the University of Liverpool in an attacking, free-flowing match against a tough young side.
Kishaya Stewart opened the scoring on 20 minutes to put FC Community in front. The University responded with two of their own to lead 2-1, but Stewart levelled the contest at 2-2 with her second of the afternoon on 65 minutes. The hosts went back in front at 3-2 before Stewart completed her hat-trick on 75 minutes to make it 3-3. The University then struck again to lead 4-3 with the clock running down. Mercy Darkoah had the final word, scoring on 82 minutes to bring the side level for the third time and rescue a point.
Stewart’s three goals were the headline. A hat-trick away from home and the kind of finishing that wins matches on a different day. Darkoah’s late strike kept the side in it when the result looked to be slipping away.
The football was sharp, the attacking play was good to watch and the side showed real character to come back from behind twice. The University were a strong opponent, made tougher by the energy of a young squad, and a draw was a fair reflection of an open afternoon.
