FC Community came through a physical afternoon at Admiral Park with a 3-1 win over University of Liverpool, a result that locks in second place in the league.
Emma Jones got the opener on 15 minutes, an early goal against a visiting side that had clearly come ready for a battle. University of Liverpool brought their physical edge from the first whistle, and there was an early reshuffle when Elen Price came off for Sophie Le Pottier on 22 minutes. The half stayed tight after the change, with the students making FC Community earn every yard.
Keira Summerhayes added the second on 65 minutes to give some breathing room, and Emma Jones grabbed her second 15 minutes later to make it three. Lucy Green pulled one back for the visitors but it never looked like swinging the result.
Emma Jones took the headlines with a brace from open play. Summerhayes was excellent throughout, capping a strong shift with her goal. The back four deserve a mention too, standing up to a side that came for the physical battle.
In a twist of the fixture list, the same two sides meet again at Admiral Park this Sunday in the league playoff semi final, 1:30pm kick off. Knockout football, same opponents, everything to play for. Get down to L8 and back the greens.
