A 2-5 home defeat to University of Liverpool that flattered the visitors, with FC Community in the match for long spells before missed chances at one end and lapses at the other tilted the afternoon their way.
University took the lead inside the first half and held it to the break, the greens unable to convert the openings being worked on the edge of the box.
The second half opened with the equaliser everyone at Admiral Park had been waiting for. Emma Jones got on the end of it on 55 minutes to make it 1-1, and for a few minutes the game looked there to be won.
Liverpool University answered in the worst possible way, scoring twice in quick succession to take it to 1-3. Emma Jones pulled another back on 80 to set up a finish, but two late goals settled it.
It closes the league season the club can look back on with real pride. A first season of senior women’s football at FC Community, with members through the door week after week, results that mattered, a League Cup semi final run still to play and the bones of a side that has grown into the league. Plenty to build on over the summer.
One match left in the season now, away at Tranmere Rovers Development on Sunday, with a chance to play in the league cup final for the winners.
